| Our Mission
The purpose
of Oklahoma Lawyers for Children is to use the time, talent and resources
of qualified pro bono lawyers and others to represent and assist children
in the Juvenile Division of the Oklahoma County District Court. Principally,
this will be through work with the Public Defender's office, although
there are other ways that representation of deprived children is being
accomplished. Assisting the deprived children in the shelter and obtaining
kinship placement are also priority projects.
The group's pro bono
lawyers and other volunteers give their time freely so that these children's
legal representation will not simply be adequate but excellent, and carried
out in accordance with local, state and national standards for representation
of children.
Educational
Seminars
Oklahoma
Lawyers for Children recognizes the importance of "basic" training
in juvenile law. That's why the organization presents seminars for attorneys
and lay volunteers who are involved in cases dealing with children. These
seminars provide participants throughout Oklahoma the chance to become
familiar with the law, obtain practical pointers, and learn from experienced
judges, attorneys and other professionals how to do the best job representing
children.
How You Can
Help
Oklahoma
Lawyers for Children works to protect children and promote their health
and well-being by providing them the full benefit of legal counsel and
other services. It's a concept that is gaining acceptance in the legal
field nationwide, but despite this progress, many children remain underrepresented.
It's a problem that
needs to be tackled. And you can make a difference. With your help, Oklahoma
Lawyers for Children can ensure these children receive the quality assistance
they deserve in our legal system. Help us raise the standard of legal
and non-legal assistance for children. Help bring color, love and hope
back into their lives. |
